COMMON PIG AILMENTS


Here are just some signs that a common ailment could be lurking so signs to look out for when a pig is ailing (but if kept responsibly, in a clean environment then you will have no cause to worry).

  • Poor appetite and thirst – or overeating and drinking
  • Lethargy – will also not want to move or get up from sleeping quarters
  • Uncharacteristic behaviours (anxiety, aggression, lethargic)
  • Off colour
  • Watery eyes
  • Runny nose
  • Lame or stiff walk
  • Scratching and rubbing constantly
  • Hair loss
  • Coughing
  • Wheezy breathing
  • Discharge from eyes, vagina or nose
  • Colour of urine dark or lack of urination
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Cuts, insect bits, bleeding
  • Swellings
  • Abnormal temperature
  • Stiffness in legs
